Allenatore, Esposito & Raffin LLC. Obtain Medical Attention and Wheelchair for Elderly Inmate.
Los Angeles, CA September 22, 2010 – Federal and state prison and sentencing consultants and inmate advocates, Allenatore, Esposito & Raffin LLC.(AER), obtained much needed medical attention and a wheelchair for an elderly inmate housed at Federal Correctional Institution(FCI) Lompoc.
AER was contacted by the family of an elderly prisoner at FCI Lompoc concerned for the health and well-being of their loved one who had slipped and fallen down a flight of stairs at the facility. Despite x-rays and other tests that revealed the seriousness of his injury, he was sent back to his cell with ibuprofen. He languished and was bedridden for over two weeks leaving him unable to walk to and from meals, bathrooms, and showers.
After numerous attempts by his family to get adequate treatment, their requests were ignored. The family finally sought help and hired AER.
It took less than two days for AER’s prison medical advocates to get our client the wheelchair he so desperately needed and get him moved to a first floor cell. He was also assigned a personal needs assistant to help with his daily needs; his prison life was immediately and drastically improved. A week later AER received a letter from the Associate Warden apologizing for the “misunderstanding.”
The keys to a productive, healthy prison life and to surviving prison and the prison medical health system are often as simple as having an advocate like AER making sure that institutional staff is aware that there are people that care and will take action. Coordinated contacts by phone, email, and fax to administrative and medical staff often spur action where previously there were only excuses and delays.
