Client and Family Prison Counseling
One-on-One Counseling Services
At AER, we do everything in our power to ensure that before going to prison you are prepared for the realities of life behind bars. Our clients each receive one-on-one prison counseling with counselors that have first-hand knowledge of prison conditions in both the federal and state prison system. What is the food like? How violent are specific institutions? What if I am sick or injured? Any question you may have, AER’s counselors will have the answers.
Our counselors understand, first-hand, the overwhelming anxiety you are feeling. AER’s staff has done over 37 years of their life behind bars in both federal and state prisons for men and women so, yes, they understand! Each of them have been through the system and survived, and they will teach you how to do the same. You will meet or talk with your counselor as often as necessary to answer all of your questions.
Going to Prison
During one-on-one prison counseling, AER clients also learn important and very possibly life-saving details about prison etiquette. While no words will ever adequately describe life behind bars, our clients are as prepared as anyone can be for going to prison. When you hire AER you will get the sound professional advice you need about life behind bars; you will learn strategies that are more than just prison talk – they will minimize the chance you are victimized while inside.
Family Counseling
There is an old adage that says: “A man’s family does his time with him.” It’s true. Everyone that loves you or cares about you is scared; almost as scared as you are. Before they ever “hit the yard” our clients know a lot about the realities of going to prison and life behind bars, but at AER we will never forget that adage.
As an AER client your entire family gets individual one-on-one prison counseling, providing each of them with information about prison recreation, educational opportunities, medical care, job availability, inmates housing and prison food. At AER we believe that information can help to relieve anxiety. Never forgetting the old adage, our counselors also ensure that your family gets their questions about going to prison and life behind bars answered.
